*The Day Treatment Program at the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders *serves children and adolescents 5-20 years old who are either stepping down from our hospital program or are referred from their local school setting. Our goal is to provide a temporary treatment program in an educational setting that prepares the child to return to his or her home school. To achieve this, we utilize an expert team of clinicians and educators, rooted in applied behavior analysis, to work with both the child and family to stabilize behaviors and enhance educational functioning across both school and home.
As a Special Education Teacher, you will design, implement, and oversee the educational services for students in our year-round special purpose schools. Special Education Teachers are integral members of the multidisciplinary education and treatment teams who support implementation of each student’s positive behavior support plan within the educational setting. In this role, you will oversee Education Technicians and ensure that instructional services meet the prescribed academic, behavioral, and daily living needs of students in accordance with each student’s IEP. You will also be responsible for oversight of state requirements for student testing.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- License/Certifications: Maine Department of Education: Certification 282 – Teacher of Children with Disabilities.
- Experience: 1+ year of teaching experience with children with developmental disabilities.
- DOE fingerprinting required
- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to academic goals
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education and care to students throughout the formative years (ages 5 – 20)
