UMA is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Maine CITE to provide statewide leadership and manage Maine's federally designated statewide program of assistive technology (AT) for individuals of all ages with disabilities. This full-time position is responsible for the successful management and implementation of the Maine statewide AT plan to assure continuity of services in Maine including AT demonstrations, loans, reuse, training, public awarenes s , and technical assistance. AT services impact independence, safety and productivity in education, community livi ng , and employment. Maine CITE collaborates with the University of Maine System, the Maine Department of Edu cation , and num erous AT provider organizations. This position develops and maintains cooperative relationships with community-based organizations, policy offi cials , an d departments in State Government to achieve program goals. The Maine CITE Director works with state directors nationally to ensure continuity of services in Maine in accordance with federal requirements. Applicants must have experience in disability services, occupational therapy, assistive technology, or other related field.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, evenings and weekends as necessary.

Salary: High 60s to low 70s, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is soft-money funded and continuation may be contingent upon grant funding external to the University and the needs of the University .

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree plus five years or more of relevant experience in disability services, and/or assistive technology, and/or occupational therapy, or closely related field. In lieu of a Master's degree, a Bachelor's degree will be considered with eight plus years or more of relevant experience in disability services, and/or assistive technology, and/or occupational therapy, or closely related field.
  • Administrative abilities to direct and lead others in a positive manner to implement the Maine State AT Plan and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrate considerable judgment, initiative, and creativity.
  • Ability to persuade others and gain cooperation to accomplish goals.
  • Advanced practice and knowledge of Assistive Technology and the impact it has on the lives of individuals with disabilities of all ages in the realm of education, community living, employment, and information technology.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple and complex projects and tasks.
  • Ability to identify national, statewide, and institutional factors and trends that impact the program's work and to recognize the impact of alternative courses of action.
  • Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs expressed by the people representing diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate a considerable understanding of disability-related issues, policies, and funding.
  • Ability to negotiate and administer contracts; develop and manage budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of integrating assistive technology into education, community living, and work environments for people with disabilities.
  • Proven ability to identify state or national grant opportunities, successfully write proposals to those sources, and obtain grant funding.
