Position Title: Building & Grounds Laborer - 2 positions
Department: Public Works
Reports to: Building & Grounds Supervisor
Pay: Non-Union ($19.4471-$22.6037/hr.)
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt

Positions will remain open until filled.
Summary: This position operates under the direct supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor and the Public Works Director and is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair of Town buildings and grounds, including cemeteries, and snow plowing with the Public Works Highway Department during winter, while following established operational and safety procedures.
Essential Functions:
· Mow, rake, trim and maintain all cemeteries and municipal building grounds.
· Use proper safety and operational procedures when using brush chipper, leaf vacuum, weed trimmer, mower, chainsaw
· and other tools and equipment. Perform routine maintenance on equipment as directed.
· Back fill, loam and seed cemetery lots, set head stones.
· Assist with set up for elections, meetings and special events.
· Pick up and deliver food for Food Pantry, building supplies, and other maintenance supplies as necessary.
· Operate pickup trucks or dump trucks for snow plowing, salting, sanding, shelving, and cleanup after storms. Must be
· available throughout the winter months to work during storms.
· Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment including checking fluid levels, air pressures, and lubricating
· truck.
· Fill in for custodians as needed (i.e., vacations, illnesses, or other absences.)
· Ability to interact effectively and professionally with Building and Grounds Supervisor, other supervisors, other employees, and the general public for overall effectiveness of the Public Works Department.
· Performs other work as may be required in support of Public Works.
Requirements:
· Basic knowledge of maintenance and grounds equipment, safety procedures and techniques.
· Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing systems and how to make minor repairs to such systems, and of painting, cleaning, and maintenance procedures.
· Ability to diagnose and make minor repairs; knowledge of and ability to operate and provide minor maintenance on dump trucks and light equipment;
· Ability to correctly follow verbal instructions and to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with management, other employees, and the general public.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Valid Class B State of Maine commercial driver’s license and the ability to comply with all pertinent regulations governing same, including CDL drug testing programs.
· Mechanical ability and familiarity with hand tools and powered yard maintenance equipment.
· Experience performing basic landscaping tasks,
· One (1) year experience with snow removal and winter road maintenance responsibilities.
· Any equivalent combination of education or experience which demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
· Ability to perform a large range of physical activities involved in operating machinery and requiring physical dexterity, including bending, stooping, climbing and lifting up to 80 pounds.
· May require working outside in all weather conditions.
