The College’s Brand Studio is responsible for building a collegiate brand that delivers the best experience possible for students, prospective students, alumni, and faculty/staff. We act as an innovative and reliable marketing and communications partner to all departments across the College to achieve institutional and departmental goals.
What does success look like?
The Social Media Strategist and Content Developer plays a key role within the Brand Studio team by developing a measurable strategy for using social media channels to support Saint Josephs’ College communications and marketing goals by engaging with multiple audiences, including prospective students, current students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, volunteers, funding agencies, and others. This role has varied responsibilities including but not limited to developing campaigns and content calendars, management of existing SJC social channels and researching and proposing additional social media platforms, creating engaging social media content, and partnering with others to understand and support their department goals and initiatives.
What will it take to be successful?
Computer Skills:The incumbent will be proficient with Google Education Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DC), Project management software, Wordpress, and social media apps.
Communication Skills:Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities is needed for this position. This role works collaboratively with others across campus; the ability to listen for needs and communicate solutions is important. Lastly, playing a key role during critical times to monitor social media discussions, disseminate information, correct misinformation, and undertake other duties as assigned to help protect the SJC community and the institution’s reputation.
Writing Skills:Excellent writing skills with demonstrated experience and comprehensive knowledge of communications, marketing, media, and public relations techniques is a requirement. A proven track record of establishing and implementing integrated programs highlighting one’s writing skills is preferred.
Leadership Skills:The ability to effectively lead, manage, and coach employees by providing clear expectations, positive and constructive feedback, and overseeing the Brand Studio operations workflow. Partnering with colleagues across departments to continually improve SJC’s social media presence. This position will supervise, mentor, and professionally develop the SJC student social media ambassadors.
Critical Thinking Skills:A successful incumbent is able to synthesize complex issues, articulate a coherent position, and communicate in a clear and succinct manner. This includes identifying the most effective strategy to present and share with others based upon the goals of the initiative. Also, consistent monitoring of the effectiveness of social media strategies through a variety of quantitative and qualitative measures to determine overall performance.
Motivation:A high level of motivation, blended with self-confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, and, along with the energy to undertake diverse responsibilities that may be new and uncharted.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, content creation, public relations, or a related field is required
Extensive experience and demonstrated history of managing brand, style, and voice of social media accounts
