The goal of Facilities/Housekeeping is to provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained Facility in a collaborative environment.

The General Maintenance Technician plays a key role within the Facilities/Housekeeping team by:

● Performing carpentry, painting, and furniture moving/repairing tasks

● Completing basic repairs and upgrading; and assistance to plumbers, carpenters, painters, HVAC technicians, electricians, and locksmiths

● Identifying and reporting code issues, safety concerns, or issues of importance

● Maintaining all worksites safe and clean, and free of hazards, on a continuous basis

● Being the primary contact for event support and roofing events

● Providing a welcoming atmosphere, being committed and available to resolve service issues and sharing information to ensure excellent service

● Aiding and assisting visiting public through answering questions and providing directions within campus; aids and assists the campus community through answering questions regarding the campus facilities and assisting in procuring repairs, maintenance, and services offered by Facilities Management

● Performing scheduled tasks, including cleaning and disinfecting, sweeping, dusting, removing waste, and restocking

The General Maintenance Technician will also participate in the “on-call” program and will be “on-call” for one week periods and/or weekend periods on a rotating schedule. The position is part of the Facilities Management essential personnel and 24-hour Winter Management/Snow Removal plan.

This is a full-time, forty hours per week position. Work schedule flexibility is required. This position is essential personnel and may be required to work weekends, holidays, and during college administrative closings. This position is part of the college snow removal team and is required to participate in a 24-hour, 7 days a week winter management & snow removal plan.

Success individuals in this role will have the following skills and attributes:

● General knowledge and skills related to light maintenance and housekeeping

● Good understanding of institutional building maintenance operations

● Strong communication skills

● Familiarity with applicable building codes, common construction practices, and maintenance and housekeeping standards

● Familiarity with the following trades: plumbing, HVAC, electricity, rough and finish carpentry, painting, and locksmithing

● Must demonstrate teamwork skills and an willingness to help others

● Possess a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment

● Excellent customer service skills required

● Must work cooperatively and professionally with a wide variety of College personnel as well as outside vendors and contractors

● Holds a valid driver’s license

● Promotes and practices the values of the College and the Sisters of Mercy
