Job Description

Provide department based technical and resource management across area. Act as the primary lead for structural outfit and ships completion related construction activities. Responsibilities across assigned area include:
• Lead the execution of structural outfit and ships completion activities to support ship construction schedules and budgets
• Provide technical guidance, training, and oversight to supervisors and mechanics performing structural outfit and ships completion construction activities
• Develop procedures and best practices to ensure that work is performed safely and with first time quality supporting broader trade process improvement. Fosters and initiates continuous process improvement
• Work with area management to assign resources to include support to broader trade decisions on personnel moves, loans, transfers or hiring/layoff
• Accept joint responsibility with area management for trade performance; plans, organizes, and coordinates the work and worker within area to maximize efficiency of mechanics - plays integral role in BPR and ABR process
• Supervise trade Leadmen monitoring process and process control compliance including safety
• Manages cross Program structural outfit and unit make up priorities and needs interfacing with other trades and area management and works to resolve department deck plate problems
• Supports skill assessment and coordinates training (school and OJT) required to support assigned work
• Controls trade specific equipment, tool and jig logistics including PM Program, Storage, Repairs
• POC for Shipfitting quality issues - including assisting with CAR root cause analysis and correction of cause
• May periodically run a crew in addition to Assistant Superintendent duties.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

• Associates Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience of at least five years working in the shipfitting trade
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Graduate BIW Apprentice preferred

Required/Preferred Experience

• In depth knowledge and experience with shipfitting structural outfit and ships completion functions including methods,
equipment, tools and jigs required
• Minimum of five years extensive working knowledge in shipfitting processes within a shipbuilding environment required
• Minimum of three years supervisory/management experience required
• Demonstrated proficiency in structural blueprints and structural job estimating
• Welding experience preferred.
• Excellent administrative skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and problem solving/decision making skills required
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict and multiple priorities
• Experience with the Earned Value Management System preferred
• A solid foundation in labor contract administration required
