Primary Function

The primary function of the Shipping and Receiving Materials Handler is to control and monitor all incoming and outgoing shipments. Position reports directly to the Parts Manager. s.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

This is not an all-inclusive list of job requirements and/or duties and may not contain all capabilities necessary to perform the job at all times due to circumstances; Operational, safety and other needs may require the employee to perform any and all other duties as assigned;

Receiving of products from suppliers and customers.

  • Check incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy
  • Cross reference against delivery documentation
  • Prepare outgoing shipments and cores for return
  • Place incoming parts or materials in stock or distribute to departments
  • Packing and shipment of all goods leaving facility from parts to overhauled engines
  • Complete all appropriate shipping documentation.
  • Report all parts or materials damaged in shipment
  • Work with delivery agencies/trucking companies e.g. FEDEX, UPS, Trucking Couriers etc.
  • Help coordinate loading of parts delivery trucks.
  • Assist in coding parts for inventory control
  • Restock parts and materials as needed
  • Track shipments
  • Answer customer’s phone calls and fills orders from inventory
  • Must be able to access parts information from computer and check availability, pricing and substitutions
  • Familiar with basic component identification, parts number systems
  • Check available credit on customer’s account before delivery of any parts
  • Examine returned parts or cores for any defect before issuing credit
  • Fill out proper paperwork for any part covered under warranty. Return paperwork and part to warranty clerk
  • Inspecting, protecting and maintaining company assets, merchandise, vehicles, building and people
  • Be available, participate in physical inventory.

Essential Skill Sets and Requirements**

Education

  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience

  • 2 years experience with heavy duty truck parts, and automotive parts preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have a valid Maine driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Forklift Certification

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as employee handbooks, safety instructions and other procedure manuals
  • Must possess verbal and written communication and listening skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and good problem solving skills
  • Must be dependable and always punctual
  • Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Must be willing to work any shift, including nights and weekends
  • Must be able to interact well with others
  • Must always use safety glasses, eye protectors, ear protectors when needed
  • Must know how to properly and safely lift materials and use all equipment
  • Must possess the strength and stamina required to work with heavy materials and work in awkward positions
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment exam and for certain jobs may include drug screening, random drug and/or alcohol tests and subject to a criminal history background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job;

  • Moderate noise level
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions
  • Work Performed in a combination of shop and office environments
  • Some exposure to shop elements such as dust, odors, fumes, oils etc.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to lift, crouch and reach using arms and hands while handling parts and other materials or items. The employee is occasionally required to carry items, push, pull, climb, reach, stoop and kneel. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs.
