Colby's reputation and resources have expanded dramatically under President David Greene's leadership over the last six years. Applications have swelled from slightly more than 5,000 to nearly 14,000 since 2015; the College launched a $750 million comprehensive campaign, Dare Northward, the largest campaign among all liberal arts colleges; the College's leaders and innovative programs have an increasingly visible presence in the national media (e.g., The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Forbes, CNBC, CNN, Fox, PBS, NPR, and others); the city of Waterville is being transformed through a partnership with Colby and more than $100 million in collective investments; the Colby College Museum of Art, one of the finest college art museums in the country, is a destination for study and tourism alike; and faculty research and scholarship have been highlighted by multiple outlets.

Reporting to the vice president for college advancement, the senior director of communications and engagement oversees a newly constituted team of seven staff and supports the entire office of college advancement in all aspects of communications, constituent relations, and engagement. The senior director will conceive of and implement an engagement strategy that builds on existing programs, channels, and staff to create broad interest and involvement across all audiences. In addition, this individual will build an integrated communications and messaging program that extends across all media, utilizes data and analytics to continually assess its success and effectiveness, and can be adjusted in real- time. The communications and engagement staff will be responsible for producing, promoting, and curating content that drives front-line fundraising activities (principal, major, planned, and annual giving); engagement with alumni, parents, and friends; stewardship reporting and endowed fund tracking, events (in-person and virtual), and gift documentation. The successful candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of outreach and engagement as well as all media and channels, equally able to set proactive strategy throughout the year and quickly identify and leverage current events. The senior director will be a partner to all members of the advancement management team and an active collaborator in the creative process, providing strategic leadership, effective management, and inspiration to the advancement communications and engagement staff while building a best-in-class, unified team.
